the 61
first off thank you guys so much for breathing new life into my music! I've been recording for a long time now, 10 years and going strong. I have submitted my tracks to many A&R; agents and managers but you know how the music industry goes...if you don't make money first they don't care...either way...I'm going back to school! Umass Boston actually for my Music BA...no worries however I continue to work on 'Greenlight' the first official full-length album to be released! mmm what else? oh yeah! since 61 ( http://www.thesixtyone.com/mattromero/ ) allows an artist to now upload a new song everyday and I happen to have like over a dozen self-produced albums no one has really heard...then why not? you get to hear a new song everyday!!! anyways please feel free to contact me guys I love to hear from you!! longv@comcast.net much love and keep on trudging on my friends - M

Victory!!
Finally the upcoming full-length album 'Greenlight' is in production again full force and I got a little surprise for you all, the final studio release candidate of the first single 'Heroes In Modern Times' is NOW PLAYING!! Hope you enjoy it, I sure did making the song. I could not get into a real studio due to going back to school but the home production has evolved quite a bit over the past decade. I think it's fitting to start the new CD off like this because it could inspire and get someone out of their seat and moving right along towards the future. This is the start of something beautiful...

Hello, it's late
I feel like a dinosaur ...pretty silly to say but I remember the days of MP3.com back in the 90s when all the lil indie musicians would come together under one beautiful online umbrella and everyone would listen to music and buy albums and people were so enthusiastic about so many of these new artists striking out on their own and creating such awesome new music.
then Myspace came along and it was again fairly glorious spot under the sun where people would come and check out all cool new up and coming artists...there was an air of hope back then.
well friends, nowadays things got so complicated, the modern media somehow got more convoluted and confusing and saturated leaving most to just basically give up and navigate the most mundane of websites. I hope better days are to come, the music industry (from what I gather since only Lady Ga Ga's and overrated indie alt rockers need apply) is in a sad state of affairs.
However, some websites still are trying to pick up the pieces...Last.FM has still held up and become a last bastion for people discovering great artists...and Sixty One has tried and I think will eventually catch on beyond its niche of followers.
I still stand after 10 years of recording music and performing, and I'm just getting started.
I'm going back to school...for music, and this time I feel prepared and excited to get back into an active community and become motivated again to well...do music again, play live and get this fn show on the road already. I've recorded enough music for now (2 studio EPs and over 12 self-produced albums if you want to hear my life's story at Last.FM) I'm going to school in Boston and I feel like this is a new beginning for me. I truly feel like my life is getting re-started now, and for the best. And ya know, I'll probably learn some new things ;) become a way better musicians now that I know my own identity and it doesn't have to get washed away in the muddle of learning how to play when you already just want to play the words and melodies in your head.
So...I'm off, and I hope to see alot of you during the journey, either on stage or off, we'll find a way to make things feel as great as they did for me back in the 90s when the future was exciting, the future is exciting again, I'm done with a dreary existance and refuse to be a product of the world's most negative changes happening today... we can do so much better than this.
much love and peace,
M

Looking forward to becoming more active outside and going back to work in my own studio to record some new music!
So with that being said, I bid you all farewell (for now) and see you in 2010!!!

'Green Light' is a-Red Light...
in other words, the new full-length album 'Green Light' has been officially canceled in exchange for recruiting musicians to form a new band line-up and perform live. The decision has been made today as recording the new CD was going to take quite some time and become counter-productive.
With the recent release of 'Act 2' EP there was no reason to release yet another CD trying to match the studio caliber of the first 2 EPs on sale now not to mention the dozen or so self-produced albums available on Last.FM...Yes I just realized this now even though everyone has been telling me to just perform live.
SO...the musician search begins today, if you are a local Boston-musician looking to perform original pop-jazz-acoustic songs contact me at http://www.myspace.com/mattromeroband
See you soon,
Matt Romero

In loving memory...
In the memory and legacy of the original Us Versus Them line-up, I've decided to restore all the websites (Last.FM, iLike, Purevolume even Facebook etc.) and re-post the original Us Versus Them online along with their debut 'After The Drama' soon to be released for purchase off i-Tunes, Amazon etc!!
The band is inactive but I hope you all will enjoy once again the original trio and the great tunes from 2006's magical 'After The Drama' LP
Add us on Myspace!! more links below as well! http://www.myspace.com/uvtlegacy

Us Versus Them formed in 2005 and released their debut album After The Drama in 2006. Playing several shows around the Boston area, the trio disbanded that same year with their last show played at the Abbey Lounge on Halloween.
Each member has gone on with their own projects. Jon Ulman now plays for Common Thrill and Pawnshop Diamonds, John Malzone plays in the metal band Dead Light Inside, and Matt Romero has gone on to do a solo career.
For more info on the original Us Versus Them drop us a message and please be sure to check out their debut album available on i-Tunes, Amazon and more!! -Thank you.

Foreword...and a much deserved 'Thank You'
Well my dear friends, to those few on Facebook, to my old Myspace buddies who still remember me, to my loyal Purevolume fans who stuck around, and beyond...I write this letter dubbed 'Foreword' with much care and thought to you all:
I think everyone falls down at one point, I fell and for some reason I stayed in a state of neutral indifference for several months, sitting on the couch watching tv, playing video games all day, I haven't picked up my guitar in 2 years.
Well, I finally snapped out of my cold snap after all this time and just in time I might add. It was very simple: I got up, picked up my acoustic and started playing music again, my music, my songs, and I have quite a few songs to choose from.
Oh and thanks to someone who perhaps saved me from unthinkably quitting this dream came along and produced a wonderful lil studio 4-song album. Mr. Matt Russell to the rescue and he did a damn fine job, exceeding all expectations surpassing the first EP we did back in 2005 and I can't wait to show it to you all. Before you all hear it however I have one more thing to say...
I'm getting back out there, with or without friends to assist at shows, I'm taking my trusty Larrivee acoustic and I'm going to play every single possible show I can, every coffee shop, even open mics, everything. I'll go back old school, grinding it out playing for anyone and anything. With a rather impressive EP about to be released online and on sale, it's time to play for Boston, Western Mass and New York first, to go back and make believe it's 1999 all over again. I've already started so stay tuned for shows and events and finally...
While I await for the right time to release Act II: How The West Was Won to the world, I want to thank a couple of very important people:
First off thank you to you all reading this, it means a lot your support and you'd be surprised by how much a simple moment of your time is worth I'll make it worth your while I promise.
I can't really put to words how much producer Matt Russell has helped me, how much time he's put into my music and for not nearly enough compensation. The first EP we did was great, this one is magical. He made it happen and I never had anyone else in the 10 years of trying to get into the music industry having someone believe in me as much as he did.
Thank you to the amazing Mike Piehl for some out of this world drumming on the new record, he couldn't have interpreted the songs any better. Thank you to Dave Siegel and Ryan Secor from Hero Next Door, those guys blew me away and you'll soon hear how great the guitars and bass sound, they also improved upon the music and the time they lent I cannot thank them enough. Aaron Shadwell played some very cool guitar on the track Guest of Honor and improved upon my original tune considerably. Chris Alberto photoshop expert and guru brought the vision graphically and the album cover...well if you haven't seen the final version you will soon and it's inspirational and perfect.
There are several others whom I owe much gratitude to, but let me reserve that for another time and place. This letter didn't exactly come out the way I wanted it to, it never does I guess but I wanted to let you all know I'm excited again to play music for you all and I'm excited to show you the new studio disc and it's all coming together NOW...right this very moment is the time to make things happen not a moment too soon that I get back on the trail because in the end all I need are my friends and my Larrivee...just as soon as I take it to get repaired this week ;)
See you all soon, and stay tuned!

Sooner or later...
You know...every now and then something comes along that inspires you, re-energizes you, and fills you with light once again. I was watching N.E.R.D.'s beautiful video of 'Sooner or later' and it really touched upon some sort of beautiful and perhaps tragic truth for some and all.
I'm guilty of this too, but it feels like it's every man for himself out there...get rich quick, and if the person next to you falls down, well then... better them than you.
I see it everyday...in the office, at work, I see it with my dad, who works so hard yet someone comes along to take credit, I feel it at work too on a much lesser extent since I am by no means as hard of a worker as he is.
The honest make an honest buck and carry the not-so-honest's burden.
But now with the economy crashing, banks, car makers and practically every other corporation asking for a buck, makes you wonder?
Sure they (the banks etc.) will get it (the bailout), but they lost the game, even if they get it all back and never learn, they fell...nothing can change the fact, that they fell and they relied on us to save them, they could never make it alone.
But with nothing left, we can make it, we don't need a bail-out, we never needed it and after the dust settles, and while some may consider this time the worst in a long while...I don't see it that way...I see it as the most beautiful catastrophe that we desperately needed. life got too easy, too distant...I hope we all get a little closer, in person and spirit
So while we see the big wigs scrambling to save face, I'll stand here thinking what I can do to inspire the next person, and I'll be looking for the strength and inspiration in others and friends like you.
Kinda cool in a sick ironic funny way...it all came crashing down. I love it all. Under a red sky, staring down disaster and evil straight in the face.
